Connect VS2010 to TFS 11 express

Today I had a little issue trying to create a new project from VS2010 to my just recently installed TFS 11 express :

I confirmed in security manager that I had all access possible….

To fix it I installed Team Explorer for Microsoft Visual Studio 11 Beta  from here

It installed the VS 2011 beta shell, from here Team Explorer works as expected and a new project can be created:

Once the new project was in place all expected task from VS2010 are available, like to create tasks, bugs, define builds, etc.

All expected items are available from the Web site:

Next post,   where are all those fancy graphs?   [maybe express version has only source control]

TFS 11 express available

Microsoft Team Foundation Server 11 Express Beta  [TFS 11 express]

I was reading the other day (2/23) bharry’s WebLog and he mentioned will be announcing the availability of our VS/TFS 11 Beta soon.

I expected to be today (2/29) with the whole thing about Windows 8 consumer review available, but nothing.

So, meanwhile I was downloading my copy of Windows 8 I found that TFS expresss was available.  I’m installing it now

Installing from here

Civ 5. Rest in Gold Pieces, Bolt and Arrow, The Choson One (138-140/176)

138. The Choson One. Win as Korea

139. Rest in Gold Pieces. Gain 1000 gold from expended Great People with the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus across any number of playthroughs

140. Bolt and Arrow. Build Statue of Zeus and Temple of Artemis in the same city

Because of the Wonders of the Ancient World scenario pack gives you new advantages, like Mausoleum of Halicarnassus grants you 100 gold each time a great person is used.

In this game I played as Korea as a single city and build a lot of wonders in my capital, including Statue of Zeus, Temple of Artemis and Mausoleum of Halicarnassus. I created more than 10 great persons and got more than 1000 gold from the Mausolem.

Civ 5. Fear the Turtle & Seoul Power (136-137/176)

136. Fear the Turtle. Win the Korean Scenario as Korea
137. Seoul Power. Win before 100 turns as any power

In the Samurai Invasion of Korea I won the scenario as Korea, I won by year 1607 and I used less than 100 turns for sure.

I let Japan to take my coastal cities while I was fortifying Seoul with all units I could get. I put 3 Hwach’a units in the mountains and I think was the key to stop the invasion as this special unit is very powerful against melee units.

I managed to build a couple of cannons after the first wave of Samurais that helped me to recover all my cities very easily.

Civ 5. Epic Gilgamesh, Thoughtful Telemachus & Wonderwall (133-135/176)

Looks like I’m falling behind, I need a break in my work and play a bit more.

133. Epic Gilgamesh. Win as Gilgamesh
134. Thoughtful Telemachus. Win on Prince
135. Wonderwall. Build 3 wonders in the same city

In the Wonders of the Ancient World scenario pack win as the arab leader, any dificulty. In this case I played Prince. I won by turn 220, built 3 wonders and just waited until the 9th wonder was constructed.

Civ 5. New Replay option available

Just when I started to think I was mastering the game I found the latest update a good improvement.

A very nice surprise, as part of today’s update, there is now a Replay option at the end of the game, I love that feature from Civ 1.

This is a sample graph from the game I just finished:

I like the bonus you get from finishing all policy trees, my city grow huge and my science was supreme, Mech Inf vs crossbowmen

Civ 5. June 27, 2011 update

From today’s update the most interesting changes are those related to the policies. Now when you complete a policy tree you get an extra gift.

For example in Tradition tree gives an extra bust of 15% food production, something I like as I’m always going for a huge city.

Some other changes will bring more balance to the game, like increased range attack for archers, and decrease the attack power of longswordmen… now I probably will survive more games just defending against early attacks from steel armies.

I will give it a try and update this post with my findings

Civ 5. This was their Finest Hour (132/149)

132. This was their Finest Hour. Win as Anglo-Saxon England (any difficulty)

In the Viking scenario win as England. It was harder than I expected, there is an invasion from the other 3 civilizations trying to capture London.

They come from North, East and South, the number of their soldiers are 3 times defense of England, I managed to survive after I started to buy Longhorns archers.

Civ 5. Tomb Rider (130/149)

130. Tomb Rider. Pillage gold from an Egyptian city with a burial tomb in it.

Today’s update effectively corrected the problem where this achievement was not fired.

To get this achievement I took an Egyptian city, it had a gold mine outside the city (I’m not sure if that is required).  City was captured using a setup game at industrial era, this way I was sure the Egyptian had the burial tomb in it.
